Housekeeper Job Duties

  • Dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures
  • Cleaning and sanitising toilets, showers/bathtubs, countertops, and sinks
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen area
  • Making beds and changing linens
  • Washing windows
  • Vacuuming and cleaning carpets and rugs
  • Sweeping/vacuuming, polishing, and mopping hard floors
  • Sorting, washing, loading, and unloading laundry
  • Ironing clothing items
  • Using any cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops, and other cleaning tools
  • Keeping bathrooms stocked with clean linens, toiletries, and other supplies
  • Cleaning mirrors and other glass surfaces
  • Emptying trash receptacles and disposing of waste
  • Steaming and cleaning draperies
  • Washing blinds
  • Tidying up rooms
  • Monitoring cleaning supplies and ordering more as needed
  • Reporting any necessary repairs or replacements

Housekeeper Skills and Qualifications

Head Chef

The Employee will undertake all the duties ordinarily required of an employee having the Job Title including without limitation the following specific duties.

Job Purpose

To effectively manage the kitchen at Haven Hall. Haven Hall is a 14 bedroomed award winning, privately owned hotel situated on the stunning coastline of the Isle of Wight. It is envisaged that a head chef of this kitchen you will be providing locally sourced continental and a la carte breakfast for up to 30 people. The customer expectation will be that this is a memorable meal served in a relaxed yet professional setting. Currently it is envisaged that the Dinner will be for residents only and will be available on a number of evenings each week for a maximum of 25 people per evening, this will be reviewed in consultation with the owners on a regular basis. Initially the head chef should be capable of producing this single handed with some input from a kitchen assistant. The menu will be a daily changing choice of four starters, four main courses and four sweets/cheese together with simple amuse bouche and petit fours the focus will be on using the  highest standard of food production.  The chef will also control and manage the food cost in line with the agreed budget, source as many Isle of Wight ingredients in accordance with the Company’s local supply policy, control production and portions in line with agreed specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

1)     To work with the small kitchen brigade of head chef, breakfast chef and kitchen assistant (KP) to develop menus which make the best use of seasonal ingredients whilst reflecting customer demand. To then train the small team in the correct cooking and presentation of menu items to ensure absolute consistency of product.

2)     To manage the agreed food cost targets in line with the agreed budget, controlled by negotiating the best possible prices with suppliers, portion and stock control, labour and waste management and menus.

3)     To ensure the entire hotel team are aware of their responsibilities in respect of Health and Safety in the workplace and to make sure that the company Food Hygiene Management System is in place and that all records pertaining to the above are accurately recorded and up to date. To ensure Haven Hall achieves the highest hygiene standards and a five-star EHO recognition

4)     To work with the Food Service Team and Owners to ensure that they are fully briefed on menus, ingredients and presentation and to liaise with colleagues and customers to help with any special dietary requirements or preferences.

5)     To attend regular team meetings and work closely with the rest of the hotel team to agree actions following customer feedback and to contribute to the development and growth of the business though the sharing of good practice and your own experiences.

6)     To spend time on the PR aspect of Haven Hall so that it becomes well known in the local area and the head chef has the appropriate level of standing within the culinary circle on the Isle of Wight and nationally.

7)     To work with local colleges to promote the role of a trained chef to school leavers together with the choice of hospitality as a professional career.

8)     To be at the forefront of current catering trends, to reflect these in the menus created but ensuring they match the hotel guest’s expectations

9)     To train and support all the members of the brigade in order that they reach their full potential. To conduct a formal appraisal each year with each member of the Kitchen team, using the company standard format.
