Sustainability
Haven Hall is an eco-friendly Hotel, proud to be caring for both the Environment and Island Life in many ways.
All Heating, Air-conditioning and swimming pool heat uses Air-Source heatpumps
There are extensive solar panels for generating electricity
We produce our own honey, vegetables and eggs
The building was extensively renovated in 2013 to 2017 with thermal and sound insulation plus double glazing
All lights are LED and low energy
There are 3 Electric Vehicle Chargers at Haven Hall
During the renovation of Haven Hall, thick thermal and sound insulation, as well as double glazing, was installed throughout to reduce energy needs and maintain even temperatures.
Extensive solar panels supply the electricity for the Air Conditioning, which pumps the heat between the hot and cool areas of the building. This is the most efficient way to cool or heat each room using minimum energy. During the day Haven Hall produces lots of energy which helps supply both the sauna and air conditioning.
Planting trees to encourage Red Squirrels
Electric Vehicle chargers are available for guests in the large secure car park.
Situated only a few minutes walk from Shanklin train station (2.5 hours from London), it is possible to visit Haven Hall without using your car at all!
Bike paths start outside our Main Entrance Gates onto the Cliff Path that encircles the Island - great for walks and biking with easy access to Hope Beach below.
Nearby Bike Rentals are readily available and safe bike storage here make it easy to explore the famous trails covering the whole Island (we can supply maps).
Our 2 acres of gardens are full of perennial flowers, watered mainly by drip feed irrigation and water butts, and all maintained by only 2 part-time gardeners. The lawn has timed pop up sprinklers fed from a tank.
Many of our annual plants are propagated from seeds and seedlings in the greenhouse, which also doubles as a Winter plant storage area.
The formal gardens at the back include raised beds for fruit & vegetables plus lots of herbs. So, whenever possible, the kitchen uses organic produce from our own garden. What's left over gets fed to our chickens!
We don't usually cut flowers from the garden as they look so spectacular there (and last much longer) where everyone can enjoy them.
Our small orchard around the grass tennis court produces apples, pears, nectarines and plums. There is also a hazelnut tree now getting to a size that might one day attract more red squirrels to visit. The Island has rich wildlife worth spotting: red squirrels, hedgehogs, foxes, badgers, bats, kestrels, owls, butterflies, and recently re-introduced sea eagles.
Near the Summerhouse is the newest addition to Haven Hall: 2 beehives full of very happy active bees making the best use of our flowers to produce Haven Hall Honey for our guest's breakfasts
Our swimming pool is heated by special solar heating roof panels made by an Island Company: Minus 7.
In fact, we have always hired Island builders and Island staff to help support the local area. The renovation of Haven Hall employed 55 local Island builders of all trades for 4 years.
For guest enjoyment there is a grass tennis court, croquet lawn, sauna and swimming pool with plenty of space to relax on loungers. Indoors, high speed WIFI makes connection easy throughout the Hotel and Smart TV's add entertainment.
There are 3 dog friendly rooms so that furry friends can also come along to enjoy Haven Hall with you. Plus our own labradoodle Maizie loves nothing better than meeting new dogs!
